My Aromatherapy Recipies

I got started using aromatherapy after I found a diffuser set at a discount store. It came with four essential oils, the diffuser and a small wood display cabinet. Everything was in the kit, so I bought it. It not only was a nice natural way to deodorize my home, but it helped me manage my stress through a very difficult job I had at the time.

I much prefer the aromas of natural essential oils to synthetic chemicals other, more common home deodorizing systems use. I started reading more about aromatherapy and essential oils and bought some books on the subject. Now I use essential oils and natural ingredients for skin care, baths, cold care as well as stress reduction and deodorizing my home.

I find placing a warm wet washcloth on my forehead with a few drops of lavender or bergamot essential oil help me alleviate headaches and help me sleep at night if I am having trouble sleeping.

When I travel, if I am staying somewhere I have not been before, I take a small amber bottle with a mixture of cedarwood, citronella, tea tree, and lemongrass essential oils in a mixture of 1 ounce of vodka. I sprinkle it lightly on the bed sheets to keep away any bugs.

I put together my favorite recipe during the summer after mosquitoes had bitten up my legs. I put a cup of sugar in a jar. I added ½ cup of sunflower oil. I then added vitamins A, D, and E from capsules, and added geranium and tea tree essential oils. I used it as a body scrub on my legs and the mosquito bites healed up very quickly!

If you decide to try this at home, just be careful about how much sunflower oil you add and be careful using the mixture in the tub – it does leave an oily residue that is slippery in the tub or bathroom. But it was much cheaper than commercially prepared body scrubs and had the added vitamins and natural essential oils that many commercial preparations do not have.
