Purple Dye in Lavender Soap

by J. Baeb

Hi!

I just had a question re: your purple lavender soap recipe...re: the purple liquid dye: can that be food coloring, or is that some other type of dye?

Also, I've seen in a couple other recipes mention that dried lavender buds can go rancid/rot in soap - how do you prevent that? Or is it not really a problem?

Thanks!

Cosmetic grade colorants
by: Liani Widjaja

Hi Julie,

Nice to have you here.

The liquid dye that I mean is the cosmetic grade colorants. you can find them at craft store or soap making supplies. You can find them plenty on the net too.

No, You can't use food coloring cause it will fade quickly.

I don't see any problems about added lavender buds. But if you're not convenience with it. just don't use it. It just makes the soap appearance more attractive.

Please use the organic lavender buds for this one as you don't want spray residues on plant material irritate your skin. Don't buy dried flower for potpourri use, they might have some dyes that might be harmful.

HTH
Liani
