Pneumonia

by Amy
(Indiana)

My father just underwent surgery that removed his spleen and 80% of his pancreas (he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer). He is still not allowed to eat or drink anything. Yesterday he was running a low-grade fever and went to the ER. They said he has pneumonia and pleural effusion. My question to you would be, do you think that putting him over a sinkful of HOT water with a few drops of eucalyptus and lemon and maybe some tea tree would be safe for him?

Hello,

I don?t recommend putting him over a sink with hot water. Let him stay in bed and either diffuse the oils in a dry diffuser (something that will simply evaporate off the oils without the use of water) or put a few drops of the oil on a cloth and place it over his upper chest on top of the blankets, so he can breathe them in. See if he can tolerate the odors of each oil first.

Since he is in a fragile state, don?t use more than one drop of eucalyptus and 1 or 2 drops of lemon and tea tree oil twice per day. Eucalyptus shouldn?t be used if your father has epilepsy, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal inflammation or liver complaints.

Bear in mind that eucalyptus, if over used, can cause nausea and heart palpitations. All the best to you and your father.

Cristl
