Olive oil has been used for centuries as a cooking oil, massage oil and a moisturizer.

Extra virgin is the oil from the first pressing, and it is considered the purest form of the oil. It contains the highest levels of the antioxidants as well as phenol and vitamin E. The processing seems to take away from the quality of the product.

Olive Oil Benefits for Hair

There are several ways of treatment for dry hair and scalp.

Use this once a week to shine your hair. Gentle warm olive oil in boiling water. It should be moderate to put your finger in. and rub into your scalp and hair. Wrap hair for 10 minutes with a warm towel and shampoo as usual. This works just like any of the hot oil deep conditioning treatments sold in the stores.
Put 1/4 cup of olive oil evenly into your hair. Massage it onto scalp and after 15 minutes rinse and shampoo as usual
Another way to make your hair shiny is to add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to your conditioner, shake well before use then use it as normal conditioner

Olive Oil Benefits for Skin Care

Use olive oil and sugar to make a paste. Use the paste as an exfoliating scrub and you will have the freshest and softest skin of your life. Add it to lotion to make it even more effective.

Add 4 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of scented shampoo into 4 oz container. You can double the recipe. Mix well and seal the container. This brown sugar scrub can be store safely for 2 month

The best cosmetics are using olive oil as their base to keep skin healthy and glowing. Olive oil can even be used to moisturize and heal damaged cuticles and nails. The vitamin E in the oil nourishes the nail and the nail bed with regular use of healthier stronger nails overall.

You can pamper your feet with 1 tablespoon of olive oil in warm footbath plus you can add with sugar scrub treatment.

One of the greatest benefits though not yet scientifically proven is that it seems to inhibit the outward signs of aging. The women in the Mediterranean look years younger longer than in any other region.

Olive oil can be good as eye soother too. This is how you gonna do:

Add tea bag in boiling water and let it steep for 2 minutes. then squeeze the bag and allow them to cool
warm olive oil in saucepan. Do not allow the oil too hot
Pat gently olive oil around your eyes and your eyelids, then lie down. Use tea bag to cover your eyes for 10 minutes
Remove the tea bag and use tissue to remove the excess oil

Finally we come to one of the greatest benefits of all and that is that researchers are suggesting that regular use of olive oil might help to prevent colon cancer. Though it has only proven to be so with lab rats if this is true it could mean a lot to the general public what with instances of colon cancer on the rise.

On a lighter note olive oil can also be used to control hairballs in your cat. Surely Muffin will be glad you added it to her food. Hairballs can be very aggravating for your pet and the noise they make trying to get rid of those things is creepy and unnerving. So you see olive oil is great for the entire family.
