Achieving great-looking healthy hair with aromatherapy is not difficult, nor does it need to be expensive. With a few drops of essential oils, herbs, and flowers, you can create a variety of treatments that your hair will respond to quickly.

The following recipe is design just for your hair to make it healthy :

Use this Healthy hair aromatherapy blend before you rinse your hair.



For soothing and refreshing to scalp :

  • 2 drops Tea tree
  • 2 drops Lavender
  • 2 drops Clary sage
  • 2 drops Jasmine absolute
  • 1/2 ounce base oil ( jojoba or sweet almond)

Healthy Hair Aromatherapy blend for relaxing and conditioning:

  • 2 drops Roman chamomile
  • 2 drops lavender
  • 2 drops sandalwood
  • 1 drop jasmine absolute
  • 1/2 ounce base oil ( jojoba or sweet almond)

Scaly scalp and dandruff-prevention blend:

  • 2 drops lavender
  • 2 drops tea tree
  • 2 drops rosemary
  • 2 drops ylang ylang
  • 1/2 ounce base oil ( jojoba or sweet almond)

You may increase the proportions as needed to make this healthy hair aromatherapy blend (i.e. double the amount of essential oils used for 1 ounce of base oil ) . To make an undiluted healthy hair aromatherapy oil blend from any of these recipes, combine oils in a 4 ml amber bottle.

Method :

Combine base oil and essential oils and mix well. Double recipe is needed for long hair so oil will cover all of the hair. Apply oil gently throughout hair. Cover your head with a plastic cap. Leave oil on hair for at least 1 hour. To rinse, add shampoo directly to the oiled hair before you rinse or wet it. The shampoo emulsifies the oils, resulting in a much more thorough rinse.

Natural Herbal Shampoo

Ingredient :

  • 1 ¾ litre boiling water
  • ½ cup witch hazel
  • 1 teaspoon chamomile oil
  • 450 g pure soap (grated or chopped )
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary

Method :Combine the boiling water and soap in the large non aluminium saucepan and bring to boil.Reduce heat and leave to mixture to simmer gently for a few minutes until soap has completely dissolved.Remove from heat and add witch hazel and essential oils. Stir until thoroughly blended.Pour the mixture into a jar or squeeze bottle when liquid.

Energising Blend Shampoo :

This Blends improves blood circulation to the scalp, leaving you awake and refreshed. Improving circulation has been known to slow down hair loss.

Ingredient :

  • 3 drops Grapefruit Essential oils
  • 3 drops Peppermint Essential oils
  • 2 drops Lavender Essential oils
  • 20 ml liquid castile soap

Anti Dandruff Shampoo

This is quite a strong blend which can used to combat dandruff and dry, flaky skin. Using a capful of vinegar in the after-shampoo rinse water will improve the condition of scalp. Apple cider vinegar restore a natural pH to the skin and hair .

Ingredient :

  • 5 drops Lemon Essential oils
  • 2 drops Rosemary Essential oils
  • 3 drops Lavender Essential oils
  • 25 ml liquid castile soap

Jojoba hair conditioner

Herbal hair conditions help make hair more manageable and often impart a smoother and softer texture.

Ingredients :

To make:

  1. In the top of a double boiler, gently warm the rose water.
  2. Once rose water is warm, add jojoba oil
  3. Pour the mixture in a blender and add the vitamin E. Blend at high speed for 2 minutes.
To use:

  1. Wet hair with warm water.
  2. Pour the conditioner onto your hair and scalp, massaging in thoroughly
  3. For damaged hair or extra conditioning, leave on for several minutes, perhaps while bathing
  4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
  5. Shampoo lightly and rinse again with cool water.

Conditioner for dry and damaged hair:

Inspired by Better Basics for the Home, by Annie B. Bond (Three Rivers Press, 1999).

INGREDIENTS :

  • 2 ounces aloe vera gel
  • 1/2 teaspoon olive,avocado or jojoba oil
  • 2 ounces organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ounce powdered milk

Combine ingredients in a bowl and apply to clean, wet hair. Allow formula to remain on hair for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse well with warm water. Makes enough for 1 treatment.
