Frankincense Powder

by Linda

Hello,

I found your site searching for ways to make my own EO's. Thank you for so much useful information. I was wondering though, how to make EO from powdered frankincense? Can I do this by simply soaking in olive oil? Also, the organic olive oil has such a strong fragrance of its own - will this fade?

Thank you!
Linda

powdered frankincense
by: Liani

Hi Linda,

I was wondering though, how to make EO from powdered frankincense?

Not to my knowledge, the essential oil is made from distilling the resin. Not sure if your powder frankincense would work.

Can I do this by simply soaking in olive oil?

You could make a type of "infused" blend by soaking anything or mixing it with a carrier oil. Olive oil is a type of carrier.

Also, the organic olive oil has such a strong fragrance of its own - will this fade?

Virgin and Extra Virgin Olive oils have a strong odor. This will not fade. If you want to avoid the strong smell of olive oil you will have to find a "light" Olive oil.

Organic just means it was grown where they avoided the use of chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides. It has nothing to do with how strong it will smell. Light Olive oil will work and not have a strong odor.

Frankincense Powder
by: Rita

Hi Linda!

As Liani said, frankincense oil is made by distilling. Frankincense powder is by my knowledge not suited to mix with oils for the purpose of using it on your body; maybe you should only use it in an aroma lamp.

If you don't want oil with a smell, use almond oil - this is odour free. But again: avoid putting oil with frankincense on your skin. Better to buy frankincense Essential Oil and mix this with Almond Oil (2,5 %) or 5-10 drops with water in your Aroma lamp.

Warm regards,
Rita
