Aromatherapy can help a lot in the case of Pneumonia, because essential oil can be in direct contact with the lung tissue. You can use essential oil in an oil burner or in a diffuser.
Here are the list:
Eucalyptus Globulus
Peppermint
Lemon
Thyme
Tea Tree
Oregano
Rosewood
Research study regarding essential oils for pneumonia
I found an article from aromatherapy4u.wordpress.com, It stated that Oregano, thyme and rosewood oils appear to destroy the species of bacteria that can cause pneumonia.
In a lab study of 74 different oils, researchers found that these three oils were the most effective against the bacteria strain S. Pneumoniae as well as several types of fungi.
“We first investigated this because of a chance observation during an unrelated experiment,” says Diane Horne, PhD, professor of microbiology at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. “We noticed that pneumonia cells just fell apart when exposed to certain aromatic sprays.”
The best results occurred with oregano, thyme and rosewood and intermediate inhibition of the pathogens was achieved with cinnamon oil and clove oil, Dr. Horne said at a poster presentation at the meeting. Dr. Horne pointed out that the oils also showed efficacy against E. coli and several species of fungi.
Although the research is still at a very early stage, it’s conceivable that aromatherapy with the three oils may eventually become a helpful tool for controlling pneumonia infections.
Some treatment using essential oils for pneumonia
Lemon and eucalyptus oils are effective against bacteria that cause staph, strep and pneumonia infections. A 2-percent dilution makes an effective vapor steam.
Steam treatment carries essential oils directly to sinuses and lungs, and provides warm, moist air to help open nasal and bronchial passages.
To do a steam, boil a pan of water, turn off the heat, cool 1 minute, add 3-6 drops of essential oils to the water, and use a towel to corral the steam around your head as you breathe deeply.
Recovery from pneumonia may be helped if you add the essential oils of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) or tea tree (Melaleuca spp.) to a blend in a carrier oil for massage purposes.
You can mix a couple of drops from Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Oil and Bergamot Oil to ¼ cup of Sweet Almond Oil for massage purposes. You can use this blend to rubbed over the chest, back and throat.
