Essential Oils for Menstrual Cramps - my personal recipe
by: Cristl Arndt

Hi Miriam,

A recipe that works well for my menstrual cramps and endometriosis pain is the following: Add 1 drop each clary sage (Salvia sclerea), geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) and Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) to the palm of your hand followed by a several drops of carrier oil (such as sweet almond oil). Apply directly to your abdomen in a clockwise manner. This should help for a couple of hours and you can reapply again as often as you need to. I find that this concentrated blend works better than the recommended 4% dilution since my pain gets pretty bad! It's potent smelling but it works for me and I don't need to take OTC meds. Hope it works for you.

Essential oils for nausea and headache
by: Cristl Arndt

Hi Miriam,

I forgot to mention that the Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) not only helps cramps, it will also ease nausea and headache associated with the menstrual cycle. Ginger (Zingiber officinalis) also works for nausea (add a drop or 2 to your palm along with a few drops of carrier and apply it to your abdomen in a clockwise manner. You can do this every 2 hours as needed.

For headaches, high altitude lavender (Lavandula officinalis) and Roman chamomile work well. You can diffuse 2-3 drops of each, or use them in a bath (but fill the tub first, then add the oils) and soak for 20 minutes.
