cataracts

I had used 3 different essential oils a while ago for my dogs cataracts and they had cleared up. I read the book by Kristen Bell on Aromatherapy for Animals. In there it says don't use oils around pets eyes or nose. Do you know what is proper and healthy? I used lavender and 2 other oils. I have a 15 year old Yorkie and would like to try to get rid of those cataracts. Can you give me any advice?

Unfortunately Cataracts in old animals is part of the aging process. What we often think of as cataracts may be what many veterinarians just call ?old dog eyes?. The cornea and lens become cloudy ? not necessarily cataracts although cataracts in old dogs is very often seen.

If the dog were say only 3-4 years old, then surgery could be performed to replace the corneas/lens (just like they do for people).

Unfortunately there are no essential oils that would help or cure cataracts in dogs OR humans ? if there were this would be an easy and inexpensive way to deal with this life altering malady. Sorry, but there is really nothing in the line of essential oils that can be used for cataracts.

It is never wise to use essential oils near your eyes, even small amounts getting into the eyes will burn very badly.

The best advice for a dog with Cataracts is to keep them safe and comfortable and help them avoid running into furniture.

Sorry there isn?t any Essential oils or aromatherapy that can help this situation.

PS. I have a 17 year old Yorkie and she has ?Old Dog Eyes? too with starting of Cataracts.
