Hi Nur,

I am replying you based on what I read about mountain rose essential oils.

It is said, traditional use of orange essential oils(Citrus aurantium or Citrus sinensis) can be taken internally.

qoute from its information.

Citrus aurantium - This oil has been used in many applications for the digestive system. Extensively used as a flavoring material, especially in liqueurs and soft drinks.

and

Citrus sinensis - Extensively used as a fragrance component in soaps, detergents, cosmetics, perfumes, and in the food and drinks industry.

Yes and NO.

Yes and NO.

As you know many essential oils are used in the flavoring and food industry. BUT as aromatherapists we cannot suggest or recommend that any essential oil be ingested. We know many folks that do add a drop of PURE essential oils to their water or when cooking or baking but they do so at their own risk.

Essential oils that are used in flavoring or the food industry are regulated in the USA by the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Aromatherapy is regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). If we say you can ingest it then you have to either have had it prescribed by a Medical Doctor (FDA regulations) or it will be Food Quality and regulated under the USDA.

For it to be True Aromatherapy – It is inhaled – Smelled through your nose! Or massaged on the skin (where you still smell it).

Our essential oils are pure enough to take internally BUT we cannot ever tell anyone to ingest ours or any essential oil.

Please note that using a little in a mouth wash or gargle solution that is made at home using water – swishing around and spitting out of the mouth is not considered ingestion. That is as close to being ‘swallowed’ as we are allowed to suggest.

Anyway, Hope this helps.

Yours in Aromatherapy,
Penny
