Aromatherapy for lady who has bipolar

I have had some brilliant advice from this site before and I am hoping someone can help me again. I have a client who is booked in for an aromatherapy massage on Wednesday evening. She has bipolar. I thought about using, lavender, jasmine or rosemary essential oils. I have done quite a bit of research on this illness and these are the 3 oils that are suggested. What I want to know is should I half the quantities, as I would for a child until I know how she reacts to them. I would suggest she contacts her GP, but in my experience, they wont comment and say they don't know anything about complementary treatments. Any advice of you would be helpful.

Aromatherapy for Bipolar Disorder
by: Rita

Lavender would be excellent, because it is relatively safe, and it helps soothe extreme moods.

Personally I wouldn't use Jasmine, for it stimulates the libido, and could provoke unwanted sexual behaviour when the patient experiences an overoptimistic episode. During a depression it would be o.k., though.
You might try Cedar for its quality to help feeling safe.

Rosemary would be a good choice, but not if the patient has hypertension.

It is indeed a good idea to halve the doses.

I hope your session goes well and is successful.

Warm regards,
Rita

Massage for bipolar client
by: Pat

I did the massage last night and did use lavender in half quantities. The client enjoyed the treatment but she didnt relax and as soon as I had finished the treatment, she was straight up off the bed. Usually I find that clients who are really relaxed just want to lie there to get themselves together.

She has booked anaother one in two weeks which is good.
