7 Tips to Solve Problems After Birth Using Aromatherapy

The moment you give birth, the problems after birth begin.

The first few weeks and months after a baby’s birth can be a wonderful and confusing time. There are several things that make your life turn upside down. It is important to give yourself time to adjust.

Birth is a rite of passage, a journey into motherhood and most likely you feel a broad of spectrum of emotions from tears to extreme bliss.

Some problems after birth which may occur are:

1. Recovery After Giving Birth

After a vaginal birth, a woman is likely to have sore vaginal tissues. This may be aggravated by a swollen perineum, "skid marks", a tear, an episiotomy, and/or hemorrhoids. One of the most helpful ways to assist in healing and lending comfort at the same time, is using a sitz bath. Sitz bath can also help prevent infection.

Sitz bath using cypress and lavender. Cypress is an astringent and causes the raw blood vessels to close over. Lavender is very healing and gently encourages the growth of new skin at the same time as protecting the raw area from airborne infection.

How to make sitz bath ?

2 drops cypress and 3 drops of lavender in a bowl of warm water.

It's better you have sitz bath 24 hours after birth, when you can be up and about more comfortably. Sit on the bath for 10-20 minutes, 1-3 times a day or as needed, until the soreness is relieved. Most practitioners recommend use of the sitz bath for at least one week after birth.

2. Breast After Birth

After giving birth, the interaction that takes place with a mother and her new born helps strengthen the bond, and satiate hunger ensuring that the baby grow to be healthy.

Unfortunately, not every part of life is as beautiful as we would like to think it and breastfeeding can be painful if problems arise.

Sore Nipples

Babies have a very powerful grip and suck extremely hard. Most women can't do breastfeeding because of the pain and the bleeding.

Most of essential oils are too strong to be put in that area and would not be recommended for baby to swallow. Lavender and rose are the perfect ones to use.

Dilute one drop to one teaspoon of nut oil. You can massage this blend into the nipples after the feeding and the nipple and aureola should be washed before each feed.

Mastitis

Mastitis is an infection of the breast tissue that causes pain, swelling and redness of the breast. Many new mothers notice that they are running a slight fever and developing soreness and heat in a breast.

If mastitis occurs, usually within the first six weeks after birth, then the most important thing is to reduce the heat in the local area, you can do so by put a compress in the area or you can try our Poke Root Herbal Oil

Mastitis Compress:

  • 1 drop of geranium essential oil,
  • 1 drop of lavender essential oil,
  • 2 drops of rose essential oil

Put this blend in a 500 ml to 1 liter of cold water. Mix well before dipping in a clean cloth and applying to the affected breast.

Lactation problems

When your milk isn't enough for the baby then you'll have to look for any formula milk in the market. But breast milk is much easier to digest. Plus it will prevent the baby against infections, food allergies, helps the growth of teeth and most important it will improve your baby's brain development.

To make you breast milk enough for the baby, there are several things you should do:

  • Make sure you eat plenty of healthy and nutrition food
  • Drinking plenty of water half an hour before the breast feed due.
  • Massage the lump of your breast firmly between and during feedings.
  • Soak a towel in warm water and place it on the breasts 10 minutes before feedings.
  • Take plenty of rest during the day
  • Try fennel tea for producing more milk. Add a cup of water to 1 teaspoon fennel seed. Allow to stand for 5 minutes or so then strain, add a little honey if desired. Repeat every 2 hours. This will increase the milk flow.

3. Hair Loss After Birth

Hair loss after birth is totally normal. This is simply that all the great thick lustrous hair you had while you were pregnant is disappearing. This condition does not cause permanent hair loss or obvious bald patches.

At about three months after delivery the hair follicles, which have been in an extended phase of growth, change to a shedding phase. The result can be a significant thinning of the hair, but no treatment is required and after another four to six months the usual balance of hair growth and loss will be re-established.

There are a number of things that you can do to reduce the extent of hair loss during pregnancy or after delivery:

  • Avoid pigtails, cornrows, hair weaves, braids and tight hair rollers which can pull and stress your hair.
  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables, which contain flavonoids, many of which are antioxidants that may provide protection for the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.
  • Give regular massages to your scalp and hair with lukewarm oil at least twice a month. You can choose coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil for your hair.
  • If you need to use blow dryers and other heated hair instruments, try to use the cooler, lower settings.
  • Never comb your hair when they are wet. The roots of the hairs are the weakest when they are wet.
  • Horsetail is a good source of silica. Silica helps to keep hair strong and looking shiny and sleek. To shampoo hair, steep 2 tbsp. horsetail in 4 oz. hot water and add to a baby shampoo.

Scalp massage blend to prevent hair loss:

Put 5 drops of ginger oils and 5 drops of rosemary oils into 20 ml of sweet almond oil. Massage the blend into dry hair. Cover the hair with warm towel for 20 minutes. Then apply shampoo straight into the hair and rinse as normal.

4. Depression After Birth

From about day eleven until six weeks up, you would have become exhausted and hypercritical about yourself. This is the time when you feel postnatal depression.

By beginning of this phase, a mother's milk has come in and so have the blues. Maternity blues characterized by tears and exhaustion usually last a few hours to a few days then spontaneously disappear.

Jasmine, clary sage and ylang ylang are the best essential oils for depression after birth.

To use: just put a few drops of those oils in the bath water. At night you can put a drop or two in the edge of your pillow.

5. Stretch Marks After Birth

Stretch marks are a common problem after birth that every woman has.

Can stretch marks after birth be really removed ? The answer is yes. Stretch marks do fade away after a while. These scars start out as pink, purple or dark brown. Over time they fade and their color turns silver or white. Be patient on what you are doing and eventually you'll see the result.

Try this blend to help remove stretch marks after giving birth.

Anti-Stretch Marks Massage

  • 1 drop of Roman Chamomile oil
  • 2 drops of Frankincense
  • 1 drop of Lavender
  • 20ml (0.6fl oz) Calendula oil

Massaging the blend into thighs, hips, breasts and belly every night and morning will nourish the skin and help maintain elasticity.

6. Tiredness After Birth

The time immediately after birth is the time when mother needs help from other people. Keep in mind that you need rest also. Not getting enough sleep can leave you feeling bad-tempered and unable to cope with simple things that wouldn't normally upset you.

To restore your energy, you deserve a good massage. Labor is physically very demanding and can take a lot of you, so a blend massage in your back will give you more energy and strength, while removing the tension and strain caused to the back during the last months of pregnancy.

Dilute 2 drops of bergamot and 1 drop orange in a 2 teaspoon of carrier oil. If you don't have bergamot you can change it to rosewood essential oils.

7. Weight Loss After Birth

Combining smart, healthy eating, and exercise will make it possible to regain your figure again. Here are five tips for weight loss after birth that any new mother can do to quickly get back in shape while enjoying motherhood.

1. Breastfeed: Not only will your baby benefit from being breastfed, but you will too as you'll be burning more calories than mothers who choose to bottle feed. New mothers do have to consume more calories, however, studies have shown that most women tend to burn those calories faster if they are not breastfeeding their babies.

2. Realize the benefits of exercise: Join forces with friends, family, your co-workers, or other new moms to get together to regularly exercise. Bring the babies along for a walk in the park and make pushing the stroller a part of your workout.

Walking is something you can start doing within a week of giving birth, unlike some exercises. For at least six to eight weeks, avoid any exercises that are particularly exerting, such as running or jogging, until your body has had the chance to fully recover from the pregnancy.

3. Stay well rested: Besides giving you more energy and helping you to feel better in general, sufficient amounts of sleep helps your body to properly regulate hormones, which in turn, directly affect your appetite.

Finding enough time to sleep is one of the trickiest tasks for new moms, but if you sneak in an hour or so every time your baby naps, you should be able to compensate for the sleep you're sure to lose during the night.

4. Snack frequently: Snacking on healthy foods frequently helps rev up the metabolism, gives us more energy, which ultimately increases our productivity, generating more endorphins in the brain and helping us to just feel better in general.

Satisfy your brain's need to snack as well as satiate your hunger by nibbling on things such as raw vegetables, which are crunchy and great with a low-fat dip, or pretzels, an excellent low-fat snack food, and fruits that provide a solution for the sweet tooth.

5. Use a smaller plate: The old saying, "The eyes are often bigger than the stomach" holds true for many people, but using a smaller plate is one way of battling this phenomenon. Actual studies have been done on both men and women who were given different sized dinnerware to see how they may have influenced how much the participants ate. Sure enough, the bigger the plate, the more food that was consumed, and the worse the person felt physically after overeating.

Portion control must be a priority for effective weight loss, and using a smaller plate can be a very easy alternative than measuring or weighing your foods.
